Does anyone know when this is being released. I know it was recorded during that open session a while back. Maybe he's adding some overdubs or something.

mate, there's fuck all pumpkins news right now, i'm sure if anyone knew when chicago songs was coming out that there would be a long arsed thread about it.

yeah, i kinda figured this project was scrapped... but i haven't really checked up on corgan news in a while & thought that maybe he decided to finally release it.

didn't you hear? its coming out right after the Metro Final Show DVD.

zbeast78

personally, i'd rather see them empty the vaults & release some unheard material (more complete pasticio medley-stuff & other unreleased songs) than finally release that Metro DVD.

to be honest as the days go on I get less interested in a metro dvd, still it would be awesome.

Think of it this way: the more stuff they DON'T release, the better the box set is going to be when you're fifty.

The world is not ready for the Chicago songs or something. That's why he says he hasn't put them out yet.

i t will be out when the summer and winter equinox happen or something.

I'd rather hear their unreleased stuff than have billy tarnish the smashing pumpkins name... again.

Kahlo
04-11-2006, 10:06 AM
when did he tarnish the name???

Jackbox
04-11-2006, 10:21 AM
Well, since everything he does is related to smashing pumpkins, i'd have to say MSOTS and TFE. However, fucking up with the name of Smashing Pumpkins attached is going to hurt far more.

Oh yeh... and that stupid fucking anime.

I remember reading an interview about the Chicago songs where Billy admits he opened the CD case for Sufjan Stevens's Illinois and his eyebrows were singed off by a "blast of supremacy." He goes on to say he found that the seat of his pants were soaked with blood, and he wrapped them around the master Chicago tapes and buried the lot in his backyard.

I'll try to find the interview, it was really interesting.

in that australian interview where he looked like he was going to die, he said that he was originally going to release the chicago songs, but after the response to the future embrace, he felt as if the fans weren't worthy of those songs/wouldn't understand. im paraphrasing, but thats sure as hell what it sounded like. a punishment of sorts.

too bad that Suckjan Stevesucks sucks though, topley-bird. seriously, though, this is like making fun of cancer. happenstances can't be helped, and it's just unfortunate. and you're wrong.

i'd have to agree about the sufjan thing. his chicago songs album would sound pretty weak now compared to Sufjans' Illinoise (which in my opinion was the best album of '05). riverview & prairie song were pretty good, though.

Sufjan Stevens is some guy who likes to pretend he's from various places in America while pretending to play various American instruments like the banjo. he's very pretentious.

as for the pronunciation, it is not like "suffer" though it should be, and it is like "yawn" as it should be.

I agree that the idea of making an album for all 50 states is pretty pretentious. But the two he's made so far are really great albums. the guy can flat out write a good song. And I happen to think that Sufjan is one of the LEAST boring of the whole Nu Neo Folk movement.

i wish anything billy has released or done since the djalizwan was a third as good as what sufjan has been producing... he continually puts his creations out and delivers in such an amazing fashion... his music is simply wonderful, lyrics A+, arrangement and instrumentation also A+, studio production A+. When it comes to alternative / folk / acousticish music it doesn't get much better than Sufjan.

you're full of shit. billy said at the chicago songs acoustic show that he was grateful to the fans for indulging him on his creative endeavors (poetry, chicago songs, etc.) and of course he said he would be back to rock again.

Personally, I don't care if the poetry, chicago songs, zwan or TFE were thought of as "sub par" by fans as well as industry types. In my opinion, I'm glad he flushed it all out of his system before going back to SP. Think about it....otherwise, SP may have been influenced by those creative desires.....now, with it out of his system, its back to RAWK.

yes, you are right HAL. At the very most, I"ll probably just invite more bad rep from Nasty Esty.

But seriously, I respect the diverse creative efforts...though SP will always be my favorite. Therefore, I'm just happy Zwan hopefully spared us some religious reference in the new SP, TFE spares us some electronica in the new SP, and Blinking with Fists spared us some bad lyrics in the new SP.

I want to get back to spacey cyber-rock!

relax. im simply paraphrasing what was said in the interview. the chicago songs were recorded before the future embrace even came out. nowhere in my response did i question the validity/quality of any of his projects... just rehashing was the corg said, which was that he was "holding off on releasing them"

He was just savvy enough to realize that if he did release the Chicago songs, people would just shit all over it and rip it to shreds. So he's waiting for a better moment.

Yeah. The only thing I'm at all certain about is the new album will sound nothing like any previous one, as this has always been true.

Maybe after he's inducted in the Rock & Roll hall of fame in 2015 or whatever.

If he waited for a better cultural moment for each album, he never would have released any albums.

How many times has he talked about the Pumpkins always being ahead of the curve and paving a new future and not waiting for people to be "ready" for something

I guess that stops meaning something when the albums flop

Jackbox
04-13-2006, 03:07 AM
I think by "not ready" he meant "i'm a douchebag"
