The rush to slap a brand name on just about every piece of highly visible and revered property in America continued apace Thursday as brewing giant Anheuser-Busch signed a multiyear agreement with the Cubs to rebrand the hugely beloved -- and recently expanded -- bleacher seats at Wrigley Field as the "Bud Light Bleachers."

I used to like the rooftop painted in red with the budweiser logo.

I don't see the big deal seeing how Wrigley is the corporate-named United States ballpark. Yeah, that was the owner but it is still Wrigley Field. Wrigley.

It may be called the Bud Light Bleachers now, but I guarantee they'll still sell more Old Style and PBR than Butt Light.

Fenay Park

is this a new one?

also, I'd have to say that Turner Field doesn't count as corporate-named.

well it is and it isn't... i believe (although named for the owner) Turner Broadcasting pays a fee to maintain the title

former owner. remember, gayohell owns the team now and has for some time. he gave up his interest in the club after Time-Warner merged.

I don't believe that there's a fee paid for the naming rights, but I could be wrong about that.

I hope you know that thanks to you I hate the darn White Sox so bad. :)

I always got my tickets dirt cheap because I usually went alone in the second inning. I'd listen to the first on the radio and then walk down there. i usually got a seat for about $5 because the hobos just want to go home at that point. The low price had NOTHING to do with the team's record. :D And I usually drank a few beers before I went, and compared to other fields' prices, Wrigley isn't too bad. And the beer is delicious. :( Esty, Esty, Esty. And I really think the team tries to win...

I don't care what you have to say about us. You yourself are no better than me, even if my team wins less than yours. You Sox fans are little bitches.

Bitches with a title. :p

If you've paid attention to my post, I like lots of things about the Cubs. Its my problem with management and how people can possible continue to support a club when its management could give a shit about winning a title. That and the unfair sports coverage here. I would like for the fans to send them a message and stop showing up and paying the prices they pay for a sub par team.

:( Esty, Esty, Esty. And I really think the team tries to win...-------------------- I think all players try to win. That wasn't my point.

I still like you Liz. ;)

The poor management and the not giving a shit about winning a title are part of the charm.

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

To be fair, I don't have 1/10 as much baseball know-how as you, and I won't pretend to, but I do love the Cubs and I really enjoy watching them play. I understand why you guys make fun of fans like me, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Nothing wrong with enjoying a product. Thats fine. I don't really make fun of fans like you. Its towards all those "die hards" that fail to see what management is doing. Sad thing is that wrigley is such a tourist spot and with wrigley being located in yuppieville, if the fans stopped going, they'll be plenty of other people there to give the team their bucks simply because they can say they saw a game at wrigley. Woo hoo!!!

I could never support something like that. Its empty.

wally
03-31-2006, 10:16 PM
eh, you wouldn't understand. I know that the management sucks. Really, I do, but I'll live and die by this team until I'm 90 and crapping my drawers.

Btw Wally. The season starts in 2 days. I'm sorry but this appears to be the end of me being nice to you and we can continue our old ways like before. Try not to hate me too much. I'll "see" you in November after we repeat. Bye

Didn't you read any of the predictions by the "experts", Esty? The A's will win the AL.

Esty
03-31-2006, 10:32 PM
Actually, I have read them. They are picking the A's to do well. SI has the White Sox over the A's for the AL crown and over the Cardinals for the championship.

Still, I just hope we do well again. Its always nice to win but damn, getting tickets is a bitch this year. Stupid bandwagoners. I wish I made enough cash to buy season tickets. One day, hoepfully.

Blah blah blah Wally.

My dad is a Cubs fan. His dad is a Cubs fan. And my great grandather was an O.G. Cubs fan.

I fucking hate the Cubs because of their sorry ass losing is okay mentality. I don't care how bad this sounds, but Games 6 and 7 of the 2003 NLCS are two of my favorite baseball memories of all time. I was happy for a month after that happened.
