It's so fucking expensive. I could use it both as a TV for my satellite and PS2, as well as a badass monitor.

Max resolution is 1280 x 768. It's really making me wet just thinking about it.

Yeah but you're debt free.
If you don't need a new car, house, or anything else "major" right now I don't see why you shouldn't get yourself something really nice.

$1000 for only 17 inches?

If you're gonna go big, go big:

Honestly though, your choice looks pretty cool. Those are speakers on the bottom, right? If you have your computer hooked up to nice big speakers there may be no point in buying a monitor with speakers. Otherwise go for it.

no, we have it at compUSA and it's utter ass.
it's only really clear when you look at it straight on, turn it at an angle and you have about 50% brightness, it really fuckin' sucks.

i would recommend the 19 inch samsung monitor, it's probably among the most beautiful lcd screens i've seen out there (next to the apple studio display)

<img src="http://shop.viennaweb.at/product/sam191t-gross.jpg">

there we go, max resolution of 1280 x 1024, im sure you can get it for about 800 bucks

specs:
-Screen size: 19"
-Native resolution: 1280x1024
-Luminosity: 250cd/m2
-Pixel pitch: .294"
-Pixel response: 25ms
-Contrast ratio: 500:1
-Viewable angle: 170*170
-Inputs: Analog VGA, DVI

the coolest part about it, though is it swivels from horizontal to vertical, so say....you're looking at a long webpage and dont feel like scrolling down, you can actually swivel the monitor sideways so you can read the page up and down (with *******d drivers)
the image is so crystal fucking clear, it's so beautiful.

i just wish apple would make a monitor that has that arm like on the imac, that is a pure engineering genius.

I must say, Samsung has always been there to rain on Sony's party when it comes to TVs and monitors. I'm loving my SyncMaster. Anywho, the top ten at PC World has never failed to let me down. You may want to browse. Ihaman's suggestion has landed the top of the ten. http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,108510,00.asp

Ihaman is right. Samsung rocks. I got a 15" samsung monitor and it was cheap and cool. Sony costs too much bucks and gives a poorer performance.

I have to agree about the Samsung too...my friend bought one (I think 17"?) that acts as a TV tuner or monitor. That thing has a SWEET-ASS picture. And I think they're cheaper than the Sony.

these people speak the truth, although I love all that sony makes, I wouln't think they'd have the best 3-d tvs (or whatever the kids are calling them these days)

I don't think a backlight control and integrated speakers are anything to go wild over. The extra real estate is nice, but given the limited resolution on there the monitor Matt posted has just as much horizontal space, and more vertical - plus it's 19", so it's just bigger overall. The only advantage I can see is watching DVDs without the need for letterbox format, but the picture size will be the same anyway, you'll just have some unused space on the 19".

You're forgetting the plethora of input jacks on the back. I can hook the Sony up to everything in my room.

Cool, that input jacks costs you only 300$ (maybe more)! :)

The monitor ihaman suggested is MUCH better.

That's true... it's a little small to use as a TV though. Personally I'd probably go for the 19" and a cheap widescreen, but that would cost a little more

I think I'm going to pay a little more for the functions and the style. The Samsung is ugly. The base looks cheap, and I don't think I'll ever need to rotate it 90 degrees.

go to compUSA and look at it, you'll change your mind.

haha, just setting up that sony monitor will make you think otherwise (it has about 200 pieces of plastic that are all attached to the back) it's fuckin' nuts.
