View Full Version : TFE is a sonic masterpiece Izzle 02-27-2006, 07:17 AM discuss smashingjj 02-27-2006, 07:18 AM agreed TIMb 02-27-2006, 08:57 AM i like it. aztec litany service 02-27-2006, 09:14 AM not bad, sonically. not terribly great, though. Villarelo 02-27-2006, 09:22 AM agreed . RenewRevive 02-27-2006, 09:57 AM :nooooo: laradelocke 02-27-2006, 10:00 AM I thought it was grand meself. siva6760 02-27-2006, 01:12 PM Agreed, it's a great album but you have to be in the mood. sweter33 02-27-2006, 01:18 PM particular moments are sonically ne plus ultra fantastic overkill Starla 02-27-2006, 01:40 PM My 2 1/2 year old likes it, and her favorite is Walking Shade. I know she will want to discuss this as soon as she's done watching nick jr. ravenguy2000 02-27-2006, 01:49 PM i have tfe i play it all night long it makes me want to kill myself SpFission 02-27-2006, 01:49 PM the sonics are great. the songwriting is ok. SpFission 02-27-2006, 01:51 PM i like a handfull of songs. ATC, MOH, TCE, TLS, A100. i usually just get that far into the album and turn it off now. Skip A100 and go straight to DIA, one of the best songs on the album IMO. DeviousJ 02-27-2006, 02:12 PM My 2 1/2 year old likes it, and her favorite is Walking Shade. I know she will want to discuss this as soon as she's done watching nick jr. Oh really? I thought Corgan Rules was a boy schwarzy 02-27-2006, 02:44 PM Sonically it's pretty cool but songs+lyrics are just average i guess. I know it's not totally new, but compared to the stuff released this year it's a lot more original. Quiet CD 02-27-2006, 03:04 PM sonically its probably more the work of a couple of producers than billy corgan... guitar excluded. smashingjj 02-27-2006, 03:06 PM the sonics are great. Yeah, i've always wanted to check them out. schwarzy 02-27-2006, 03:21 PM sonically its probably more the work of a couple of producers than billy corgan... guitar excluded. yeah, i guess you're right since billy asked the guy from "nitzer ebb" to come over and help for electronic sounds (for ex. he brought the A100 machine). + brian liesegang (ex NIN) & matt walker (filter) is another hint that he got some help from industrial band members. I guess it's not totally a retreat because Adore, Machina and even MCIS/SD were also the work of Billy + some producers. But hey, i guess Billy can do a lot on his own ("Isolation", the latest Frogs album or the 2nd to last Marianne Faithfull LP he produced were quite cool, ... i don't speak about Stigmata 'cause Bon Harris was already here, and i don't remember for "Eye"). One Night Only 02-27-2006, 03:29 PM I like the sound. I have a tougher time with the lyrics of some of the songs--Walking Shade, for instance. I don't find it unintelligent, necessarily--in fact, probably the opposite--but whatever symbolism's in there is just too obscure for me to catch or find meaningful. I think there's a way to be effectively obscure--songs like Pony Express or even MOH seem to have that quality. The basic skeleton of the references is fairly remote but historical or cultural. Other songs, like To Forgive or Vanity, though certainly personal, still present coherent thoughts that come to the forefront of the songs. But songs like some of those on TFE (Walking Shade, All Things Change) and really some of those off of MCIS (like Muzzle and Tonight, Tonight) are much more vague. Even though they tell a basic story, they're driven mostly by the sound and maybe by one or two key lines. This thread actually raises an idea that's always seemed kind of central to the Pumpkins and Billy's work--the music seems to be evenly split between an experience driven almost entirely by the sound, of the ability of the music to create a sense of situation or feeling, and an experience of lyrics. It seems to be something that is worked out more in the Machina era, where the lyrics and musical sound compete more. I think a lot of people point to this more even balance and call it musical maturity, but I'm not entirely sure of that. I think that good musicians probably test and tip that balance in order to progress, and it's probably important to evolving as an artist. In that sense, I can appreciate what's going on for the most part in TFE as a development of sound--though I must admit that I hope that even some of the sonic stuff (I'm Ready, which I find irritating musically and lyrically) isn't too influential on future work. Junebug 02-27-2006, 03:56 PM i have tfe i play it all night long it makes me want to kill myself  automata 02-27-2006, 04:11 PM TFE is a good album I believe, more progressive than some people give it credit for. frogfusious 02-27-2006, 04:53 PM http://www.consolepassion.co.uk/images/reviews/sonic-the-hedgehog/sonic1.JPG Azael 02-27-2006, 06:12 PM http://www.consolepassion.co.uk/images/reviews/sonic-the-hedgehog/sonic1.JPG Dammit, I was gonna do that. Only Sonic 2 instead... Lord Lemons 02-27-2006, 07:21 PM Whoopsadoodles siva6760 02-27-2006, 07:55 PM Skip A100 and go straight to DIA, one of the best songs on the album IMO. I always feel a little dissapointed at jimmy's drumming on DIA. My mum loves Now (And Then) which is usually a good sign. I had a call from her the other day saying she found a blank CD with Adore on it and she listened to the whole thing. She's 53. Corgan Rules 02-27-2006, 08:08 PM Skip A100 and go straight to DIA, one of the best songs on the album IMO. Absolutely! DIA rocks!! schwarzy 02-27-2006, 08:17 PM "i'm ready" has some horrible lyrics (even though it is certainly what billy was feeling when he wrote it), but the music is quite catchy. Some parts are gay, but the "push the world away..." section is quite (musically speaking) melancholic. I like that ... And i'm not gay ! Mablak 02-27-2006, 10:19 PM I for one think I'm Ready is great as long as you don't think about the whole 'oh lord' part. But holy crap, a 2.5 year old having such good taste in music, ToStarla is an amazing mother. Can someone seriously just define sonic though? frogfusious 02-27-2006, 10:34 PM What's your favourite Sonic game? I loved Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Mablak 02-27-2006, 10:46 PM Sonic 3D blast was wicked. Sort of the mario rpg of sega games, graphics-wise at least. Azael 02-27-2006, 11:25 PM What's your favourite Sonic game? I loved Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Ditto, still play it today, though Sonic 2 comes extremely close. celluloid_love 02-28-2006, 12:05 AM I liked the Sonic 2 on Master System. I know that makes me sound elitist, but it was just a really good game, and I didn't have a Genesis/Mega Drive. Dark Eternity 02-28-2006, 12:19 AM LOL, that was the sucky version. Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the best flat out. Super Duper Sonic or Hyper Sonic was the best fucking experience. Yeah. dean moriaty 02-28-2006, 03:12 AM 2 on the megadrive Dark Eternity 02-28-2006, 03:39 AM Sonic CD wasn't so bad either. davin 02-28-2006, 03:42 AM Sonic CD wasn't so bad either. yes! thats the one when you can travel back and forth in time. Great game! I like to go back to the past and help create a happy future for all the fuzzy animals! i also like the bonus levels. they remind me of the old version of f-zero. siva6760 03-02-2006, 01:10 PM Sonic 3D blast was wicked. Sort of the mario rpg of sega games, graphics-wise at least. I hated sonic 3D. I was impressed by the graphics but the gameplay just got tedious. Sonic one was the classic. Azael 03-02-2006, 05:08 PM Knuckles in Sonic 1 FTW. http://pressthebuttons.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/kteson1.jpg frogfusious 03-02-2006, 05:12 PM I have the ROM for that. It's pretty fun, although in Marble Zone there's a wall you can climb up which basically allows you to walk past the entire level. Quiet 03-02-2006, 05:16 PM Sonic Adventure for the Dream Cast was pretty sweet, but I've got to go with Sonic 2. Azael 03-02-2006, 05:24 PM I have the ROM for that. It's pretty fun, although in Marble Zone there's a wall you can climb up which basically allows you to walk past the entire level. Yeah, I noticed the wall the first time around too, took anything fun outa that level. I finally got my Xbox modded, so playing this rom again with an actual joypad is great. They've also managed to port Tails (Sonic 3 version, complete with flying and swimming) into Sonic 1 as well. The controls seem a little off, but other than that it's brilliant. I never cease to be amazed by those Sonic hackers. Corgan Rules 03-03-2006, 04:33 AM Oh really? I thought Corgan Rules was a boy Ahhhaaaaaa....funny little boy you are.... Damn you are just so damn hillarious you little no job having bum. It seems that you are finally back on this board all the time now. You hid out for a while acting like you were busy, but you are back to your normal ways again...what a moron you are....you little PUSSY!! seign 03-03-2006, 08:00 AM I always feel a little dissapointed at jimmy's drumming on DIA. That's probably because Jimmy didn't drum on DIA, he only programed the drum machine. shannon 03-03-2006, 08:43 AM Sonic CD wasn't so bad either. Sonic Spinball was kickass aztec litany service 03-03-2006, 10:39 AM the original sonic before he sold out i only played that and 2, and sonic cd mistle 03-03-2006, 10:54 AM That's probably because Jimmy didn't drum on DIA, he only programed the drum machine. i'm pretty sure he played electronic drums. but i can't remember where it says so mistle 03-03-2006, 10:55 AM is it called electronic drums? Corgan Rules 03-03-2006, 11:35 AM I always feel a little dissapointed at jimmy's drumming on DIA. My mum loves Now (And Then) which is usually a good sign. I had a call from her the other day saying she found a blank CD with Adore on it and she listened to the whole thing. She's 53. I think you are looking to far into the drumming on DIA. This album was not a huge drumming album....you can't just not like songs because of the lack of drumming or because Jimmy programmed the drums. It's a very good song....very catchy and might be the best song on tha album. Esty 03-03-2006, 11:42 AM you can't just not like songs because of the lack of drumming or because Jimmy programmed the drums. I can dislike a song for any fucking reason I fucking want you stupid dickless piece of shit. Esty 03-03-2006, 11:43 AM Oh, and I never played a Sonic game in my life.
