i watched some of the hockey game, trying to figure out how my rec league intramural team would do against the Italian women....

I think we'd probably lose, but mostly because only a couple of us learned how to play hockey properly, ie on ice tactics and whatnot... mostly we learned by playing shinny, which doesn't translate so well into team play with rules and lines and whatnot.

My team does have a couple of players though who are pretty good, one guy who played Junior B in goal and the other as a defenseman. The goalie plays forward for us, but the other guy is still a little too good for the league...

Didja see the size of the Italian goalie though? when she was crouched over, her head was barely above the crossbar..... she took of her mask though at one point and she was pretty hot though.

they could barely touch the puck even when playing on the powerplay.

they had a pair of D's that were both 15 ! one of them is about 5'1" and 100 pounds or so.

my first reaction to seeing the italian goalie was exactly the same, i said to my fiance here that i couldnt believe how tiny she was, and she was gonna get lit up.

italy got 0 shots in the 3rd period.

yeah I watched about 10 minutes of the Canada-Italy women's game today. my first reaction was that I would easily have been the best player on the Italian team. good god. some of them could barely skate. I'm pretty sure I'm as good as some of the Canadians too. point is...women's hockey sucks. everyone looks like they're trying so hard to skate, like it isn't natural. second thought was that Italy probably should have found a goalie that was as tall as the net. third thought was that women's hockey sucks. I think I already had that thought, but it's so true.

once time when i was in bantam my house hockey team played the girls rep team from the entire aea, not just the city.

we fucking slaughtered them something like 14-2. they stopped putting our goals on the board after 9 and we went to running time. we really tried to stop scoring, but they just sucked. after maybe the 4th goal, we stopped celebratin and just went to take the faceoff.

it actually was, team Italy couldn't touch the puck, an unsportsmanship conduct would have involved team Canada not shooting at all. There's just so many passes you can make until you reach the goaltender, the respectful thing to do is take a shot once you're there.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it has to do with the final game, the team with the best goals for vs. goals against ratio will have home ice advantage, which would allow that team to get the last line changes.

02-11-2006, 11:36 PM
Yeah. They're expecting it to be important once US goes against Canada so they want the most goals possible. One female player was saying it's a shitty rule and they should just use a coin toss like in every other sport.

I remember back in 2002 I made some comment about how womens hockey wasn't really that high calibre, and that a Junior A or Junior B team could probably beat them. I took alot of shit from some females who heard that, but I've read some stuff recently where both the USA and Canadian womens teams generally play games against Midget AAA teams, which means 15-16 year old boys who are generally the best in their region. So it's safe to say that 17-20 year old boys at a higher level could probably beat the Canadian national womens team. I wish I'd know that then.

Anyway, the womens games are good to watch when it's Canada v. USA, otherwise.... they generally have all the competition of a man clubbing a hamster with a baseball bat.

Yeah, i was suprised NBC wasn't showing any live coverage at all, at least, not the NBC I get...

But doesn't it have a few spinoff channels, like CNBC and MSNBC that are showing the game? I remember reading an article somewhere that said that the hockey games were completely covered by NBC, even if it was on the specialty channels, if i can find it again, i'll post it.

Man, maybe it's just cause I was half asleep, but that first period of Italy-Canada felt really fast and confusing. Probably just looked fast after watching a few womens games.

Italy was really quick, and if they keep stacking 5 players in the defensive end, it'll be a long and boring game for Canada. By the third though, I think Canada will be a little more dominant. They're outshooting them only 11-8, but by my count they've been outchancing them 6-2.

Injektilo
02-15-2006, 09:39 AM
Well 6-2 now, that's a little better. Brodeur looked a little shakey on those, keep your stick on the ice and use the butterfly man. If Luongo had been in net it'd be 6-0. Broduer seems even more standupish than usual.

Canada had 17 shots on net in under 9 minutes there for a while, that's pretty good. Outshot italy 28-4 I think in that period.

7-2 final. Anti-climactic third for the most part. I was struggling to stay awake by the end, so now i'm going back to bed for two hours.

Tomorrow against Germany promises to be much more boring, as the Germans actually have enough skill to hang with Canada if they just blanket them defensively

Elias is injured as well, but it looks like that he should be alright - maybe not tomorrow, but on weekend against Itlay for sure.

I mean i want to watch it, not listen to a broadcast.

Hey Jan, the game was on TSN today, i'm not sure of how many other Czech games will be on TSN, you'd have to check their schedule. CBC is showing about 2 games a day from what i understand (you can get a pdf of their hockey schedule at cbc.ca, but it doesn't have the TSN games listed).

I don't think Sens fans have much to worry about, it doesn't sound too serious right now, and I don't think he'll much much if any NHL time.

Hi All

As you may know, the Arbour Room of Hart House is going to be closed in June
and the food services taken over by some outside contractor. If you think
this is a bad thing, you might want to sign the physical or on-line

Also, I just want to make this clear, you are not expecting ME to do the thread about V. watching, right? Because if something gets posted, I thought it'd be you, since it's your place - I mean not making a thread right now, but later on...

sigh..... the timing is actually somewhat justified, the suit had to be filed within 2 years of a specific incident (in this case, the first conflict that started it all, naslund getting hit by moore) which was Feb 16 2004.

Really unfortunate, now the media will have a field day with this. I went on a rant about the media already to my roommate, so i don't feel like doing it again. Maybe later.

I'd agree that Bertuzzi should be suspended until Moore would be healthy enough to play again (which I guess will be never) if that'd be the rule in the NHL. I don't agree that there should be a special rule just for Bertuzzi. How many guys have injured severily other players by sticking out the knee or whatever kidn of cheap shots you can think about just to get a 3 games suspension while the other guy is out injured for a couple of months ?

Yeah I know it's cheap to take Bertuzzi into mouth, but i just can't resist..... there's a bad moral aspect about the whole thing I think. I am also kind of sick of Gretzky giving him a call. I mean if I were Bertuzzi, I'd probably accept it, too, but the thing is Bertuzzi wasn't calling Gretzky 'I want to be on your team', it was the other way round. Again, it's not like Canada just needed to fill the rooster with some guy.

moore's injuries are exagerated by lawyers.

he was a mediocre player at best. he may have never played agains simply because he sucked.

and the crime should be punished, not the injury. which it was, adequately by the nhl, and the courts. it is unfortunate that he got hurt, but many people forget that this same guy gave marcus naslund a HUGE cheapshot the game before that just as easily could have ended a superstar's career.

bertuzzi was suspened for over a year. it is one of the longest suspensions in NHL history. it happened 2 years ago, but SO DID THE PUNISHMENT. in fact, the punishment lasted until this year.

my point is not that it was okay to take moore down. simply that that could be a big reason he is not rushing to play. if he was Forsberg, with the same injury, i gaurantee you he would be back.

how long does somebody need to be punished? he missed the World Championships as punishement. he missed the 2004 playofs as punishment,. he lost millins in salary as punishment. his life was turned upside down as punishment.

at some point, he needs to let it go. bertuzzi punched him in the head, albeit from behind. it happens in almost everu hockey game at some point. we dont know if that knocked him out or if they 2 200lb.+ guys landed on his neck did. should Worrell be punished for falling on Moore too? he obviously didn't intend to seriously injure his teammate. and neitehr did Todd.

Moore deserved a shot. not the injury. but its sports. it happens. it sucks, but it does. if bertuzzi stated before the game or incident intent to put moore on a stretcher, like the do in the WWF, then fan or not, i would agree, he should be gone for good. there is no place for that in the game. but it was an unfortunate accident, but it was that. an accident.

Isn't the nomination something like - a reward ? To be honoured to represent your country?

Now that even ordinary Canadians apparently don't see there's something wrong with the whole thing of having Bertuzzi on a national team, or that they don't even question it, that's pretty sad. And as I am saying, i am not questioning Bertuzzi only, it's probably more about the management team.

i am not done with this yet, and don't think i will be.

bertuzzi never almost KILLED anybody. now you're exagerating.

are you saying you have never made a huge mistake and been punished? do you think you would NVER deserve a reward again, long after the punishment and crime are in the past? should he be branded for life because of one stupid judgement? do you believe in rehabilitation at all?

how do you feel about Mike Tyson? his acts are much more brutal. how about say, even Marth Stewart? granted it wasnt violent. but should she NEVEr be trusted with money again? shoulod the USA be proud to export her and her product to foreign countries? Dick Cheney fucking SHOT a guy. also an accident, i am sure. should he be stripped of his VP and never be allowed in a position of priveledge or near a gun again? he should be punished, yes. and i sure think he should not be the VP. but not for that.

eventually the punishm, ent should be done. if he had inteneded to injure or kill him, then yes, sure, he should never have the priveledge of wearing the leaf, or any unform. that would be dispicable. but it is done. at some point, it has to be done. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT! and it is over.

PS. ii know his injuries are embellished for the sake of courts and his lawyers. i have spoken to one of the doctors whosaw moore at St. Pauls Hospital (in vancouver) who said if it was some guy coming in off the street into ER, he would have probably been there a few hours, x-rayed, put a collar on, and released.

I avoided this debate because it's been way over done, but here you're just embelleshing things and ignoring other things. ie, Bertuzzi didn't lose millions of dollars, he lost half a million in salary he would have earned, and that's it. You can argue he lost whatever he didn't earn by not being allowed to play in Europe last year, but you can't count it as money he lost as a fine. His suspension lasted 20 games, not two years. The IIHF chose to honour the NHL suspension, that's up to the IIHF, not the NHL. The NHL suspended him for 20 games and he lost half a million in salary, that's all he officially lost.

Anyway, the rest of your point are far too complicated to be debated here. I'd reccomend reading Lawrence Scanlan's "Grace Under Fire" for a really interesting debate on the role of violence in hockey, he spends quite a bit of time on the Brashear-McSorely incident and I really wish I could find out what he has to say now.

Regardless of who was to blame or whether he was justified in doing what he did and the rest was an accident, we'll have to see what the courts say now. Moore has the right to go there, so we'll see what they say about their jurisdiction over the rinks. Frankly, I'm sure this is one of Bettman's worst nightmares, probably worse than the gambling thing.

I'd agree that Moore, being the wronged party, has every right to persue whatever legal avenues he feels necessary to be compensated by Bertuzzi. However the timing of this just seems vindictive. They could have easily filed this suit three weeks ago or ten days from now and made the 2 year statute of limitations just fine but for this to come out on the day the men's hockey team plays their first game is abhorrent. Getting at Bertuzzi is fine but to have his lawyers take this route is indirectly a shot at the whole team as well, and team Canada in general. It's bad enough to have the Gretzky thing going on but to put this out now and use the Olympics as a platform for his own agenda is selfish and in bad taste.

You can't really be shocked, it's not an exaggeration to say that there are about 5 teams with a legitimate chance at gold. Canada probably is the strongest team all around, but in a single game elimination..... If the playoffs here were best of seven or best of five, Canada would have a much better chance of winning. When it's a single game though..... there's alot of luck involved, a single bounce can change everything.

It's the new crappy ass nike uniforms, they look the same for every country. I really hope that nobody buys them and nike loses millions on it. they look like crap. I can live with the tightness i suppose, but the design is incredibly stupid.

uh, what's with international refs calling penalties on hits that are too hard? the tkatchuk penalty that led to the only kazahkstan goal was horrible. I also happened to catch a penalty on one of the canadian players (mccabe maybe?) which was totally clean, but the german guy was shaken up, and thus a penalty was called. ugh, international referees suck.

as soon as the olympic uniforms came out, i was amzed at how remarkably boring they were. i am nto a fan of what is basically a single-color uniform, with slight marking on the sleeve and socks. i also hope nike loses alot of money for creating those.
