has a pharmacist or clerk ever refused to let you purchase any birth control, and have you faced any opposition while getting it?

My friend from California told me that they keep the condoms in a locked cabinet and you have to get a sales person to come out and get condoms for you, how embarassing.

What I find funny is that here, the condom section is called Family Planning. I think they should rename it Family Prevention.

ammy

yeah, they do (not in all stores, just some chains), i don't know what the hell is up with that, i think it might have to do with theft.. but it pisses me off, 'cause now kids aren't going to buy them, they're emberrassed enough to begin with, but to have to ask for someone to get them.. augh.

You should ask loudly why they are in the family planning section when all you do is bum random gay men in the bum.

our condoms are on their own isle with the ky warming liquid and shit.

i liked the Pur stuff much better than the ky though! sam and mike were right.

actually, Ammy, we live in a country run and populated heavily by psychotic religious people. it wouldn't surprise me if they caused the locking up of condoms in order to further discourage the use of birth control.

There have been pharmacy mix-ups before, but no, I've never actually had a problem. They'll even let my boyfriend pick it up for me.

The locked-up condoms are purely a loss prevention thing. The CVS I work at does not have them locked up, and then the other one in my town 5 miles away does not, either. The one in the next town over, maybe 7 miles away has theirs locked up, but my CVS is the only one in the area that has blank CD's, VHS tapes, and other small electronics locked up.

Just depends on what are high theft items in the area.

is it true that in some states you can get your condoms only in a pharmacy?

It differs depending on what kind of medication it is and what kind of insurance you have and whether your insurance covers that medication. Birth control is actually covered on my insurance and I get it for $10 a month. Without insurance I think it generally runs in the $35-$40 zone.

I love my medical insurance. It covers pretty much everything as long as I get it at the pharmacy in the hospital where I work. I'd be paying like $800 a month for two prescriptions without it but with insurance it's like $15. I love it.

thanks, you're a noble lady.

in case anybody is interested here in britain all prescriptions cost the same regardless of the medicine. i think it's currently £6.30

Never a problem buying pills or condoms. In fact my pharmacist is really friendly and whenever my doctor changes the script, she asks me the second time I buy it if there are any side effects, etc etc. She also automatically hands me a box of condoms whenever I buy antibiotics. Also, love the fact that my university's health insurance plan covers prescriptions 100%, so it's free. :)

My doctor, however, is a psycho. I need to argue with her every time I go there that I still need birth control, even though I'm not married. It's pretty hard to find an OB/GYN accepting new patients in this city, so I'm stuck with her.

$84 for a year of birth control pills. Before i went to the school clinic i went to the local health clinic and got them for less than $60/yr.

The health clinic will give 4 free packs to any girl who asks and if things are ok, she has to have a mandatory pap test before she can get a script. They were great there- they even ask if they are allowed to call you at home, in case you have parents who don't know what you're doing :P

it's getting there. i have one last appt. on wednesday to adjust it again. i've got a lot more mobility with it now, but still some pain..

gotta get back into the gym once its healed so it'll be less susceptible to being thrown out of alignment from every day activities

in case you were wondering (and im sure you weren't), how come it is susceptible to being thrown out of alignment form every day activities, when i was a teenager, i broke my clavicle, and as is commonly the case for such injuries, the broken bone was not set, and the result of this is asymmetrical posture because of a slightly shorter clavicle. and in the human body, symmetry seems to be the key, and its absence can create ripple-effect problems :(

yeah, i'm concerned... right now i have the ability to regularly exercise and keep it healthy, but i won't when i'm 70. a guy in my office recently broke his clavicle and asked me about mine, and based upon my experiences he decided he wanted his set. well, it had started to heal by the time he found a doctor willing to do it (they rarely do it i guess, and it was the 3rd dr. who was willing), and so they had to rebreak it. i'm tempted to at least speak with a surgeon about my options regarding the future, cause it sucks a lot even when im young and healthy

they definitely did for this guy. mine i assume is an entirely different story, as it has been healed for years. there is probably nothing at all to be done, but i want to at least find out if there is potentially something to be done. medical technologies always advance and stuff... my dad needs a neck surgery, but the surgeons recommend he waits like 7 years because by then they predict completely artificial discs will be used to replace his damaged ones. right now all they could do is fuse bones and that would limit his mobility and be risky

my spine is fused and it hasn't limited my mobility at all.

my shoulder hurts sometimes because that's where the 'hardware' is most prominent, but its more like a sore muscle and i just change positions and it goes away sometimes :(

also, i got on birthcontrol waaay before i ever had sex because my period was so erratic and just irritating. NOW it helps my mood a lot, and i can plan life better.
seasonale is wonderful, but it's 70 bucks for 4 months.

yeah it would be pretty cool if i could rip out the titanium rods put in place to hold my spine up as it was fusing together and beat someone with them, but sadly i'm not in mortal kombat and it's not possible.

it doesn't leave your system totally until about 3 days of not taking it. women even TRYING to get pregnant while off the pill have problems for up to 6 months after.

Right, but failure rates are lessened if you take it at the same time without missing doses. It can also screw with your menstrual cycle if you mess up the times too much.

I sometimes takes them late cause I'm not home when my alarm goes off... and I have two alarms - one on my watch, and one on my cell phone. I guess I have to find a better time then midnight to take it, but it's the only time of day I'm consistently awake.

I forgot to take one last month and when I went to take it the next day, it fell down the sink... so the day later I ended up with a light period for a few days. And I got my regular period right on schedule 2 weeks later - that blew chunks. :(

I think Eve on this board got pregnant after starting her new pack of pills a day or two late, or missing a couple of pills. Obviously she'd know the situation better then me, but I remember it was something along those lines.

it's people who think like you that get preggers on the pill and swear they were taking it properly.

learn your facts. it's much more effective if you take it properly (within a 4 hour window each day) - eve and three other girls i know irl got preggers for that line of thought. a baby isn't something to mess up because you are lazy.

I'm not trying to rub it in anyone's face or be proud about it...I'm simply saying, get into a schedule. Make it the first thing you think about when you wake up. Its not that hard.

My 96 year old partially senial Grandma somehow remembers to take all 10 pills she has to take every morning. If she didn't remember, she'd probably die.

When its important to you, you remember...that's all I'm saying. Sorry if my post came off as arrogant but I was really trying to suggest getting on a schedule.

The shot is AWFUL for me, the side affects are all full blown, except for the weight gain thank god hah ;) I haven't gained a pound in a year. The depression and mood swings were horrible, but now I think I'm finally starting to adjust. I feel normal when I get my shot now, as oppose to feeling completely nuts that day.

But she probably can't take the pill or patch because of her blood pressure. The estrogen in both of those increase blood pressure...in fact they aren't really sure why that is yet, but that's why they have the shot, which has synthetic progesterone - no estrogen.

That's why I'm on the shot too.

it depends what time of the month you start taking it, on your body and the type of BC it is.. etc etc.. so yes it's true that you should wait a whole month, use protection of other sorts - but it's likely it's taken effect earlier.

but damnit people. it's a BABY. chances aren't worth it!

It usually doesn't take so long for your body to adjust to it, but they say a month just in case...you don't cut corners when it comes to birth control. So they say go a month using condoms and pills before you go solo.

No, Kristin said "i've skipped days and screwed it up a bunch but never had any scares." and that seems pretty dumb to me. Skipping DAYS, screwing it up a BUNCH...that's not responsible. Even ammy pointed that out.

I was just pointing out her statement of "never had a scare"...what's a scare, exactly? Getting pregnant. That just seemed a little naive and fucking stupid to me...I wasn't trying to insult any other people when I said that statement...which is probably why I quoted her, right?

Don't argue with me about this. I'm calling Kristin dumb, as always. And I'm suggesting that anyone who has a problem remembering - make it your priority and you won't forget.

<font color="dab9ea">I would say a scare would be missing your period or it being really late, like I was once, 6 days late after the first time we did it sans condom and I was FREAKING OUT. But then I got my period late and all was well. I would consider that a scare, maybe that's what she meant.</font>

Yeah that's what I was going to say.

I've had a bunch, even when I was doing good with the pills...but I'm never on schedule anyway. :(

i can argue with whomever i wish, it's not for you to decide. your only option is not to talk to me, that's fair.

when it comes to kristin being dumb or not i don't have an opinion. i do think that calling a person a dumb idiot (!) for not taking a medicine is a sign of arrogance. your emideate reaction is to attack her intelligence. maybe she doesn't care if she gets pregnant and feels that she can easily have an abortion at an early stage? when people doesn't agree with you or act differently, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are stupid.

My apologies...I forget you still get your period on the pill. I haven't got my period in over a year so I consider a scare being pregnant.

That's the other neat thing about the shot...spotting is sometimes a problem, but I still have the same pack of pantyliners I had last year :D

not yelling at you, just in general.

you're apparently not important, so there's no use in being a part of this discussion. :nooooo:

why are you telling dean to take birth control pills?

i think a lot of i_was_aborteds arrogant attitude has rubbed of on you. i didn't have anything negative to say about you before you got together with him. that might be why you've seen such a difference in how people act towards you now and how it was before. it's not just about the fact that people think (for no good reason) that you stole him from pink_ribbon_scars.

i've fucked up the pill BEFORE I WAS HAVING SEX!!! i got on it for OTHER REASONS and it HELPED IMMENSLY. the scares i was talking about were definitely starting a period early or not having one at all.
i've never had a pregnancy 'scare' and that's what it is a huge fucking scary situation. my friends have all freaked out about their periods after having sex for one night, and i confidently take my pill every day and am fine.
you guys don't know how fertile you are in the first place. you're all basing this on being 100% fertile anytime you have sex without the pill, which isn't true. i mean it's not like i've purposely looked at the pill pack and thought 'hey i'd rather not walk over there and get it', most of the time i had so many appointments and homework that i just didn't think about it at all.

please stop attacking my intelligence the minute i post something that isn't totally and completely in line with your own opinion. it's ignorant of you to think that everyone who doesn't think the exact way you do isn't intelligence, and i think you need to reintroduce yourself to the word and realize you aren't as wonderful as you think.

I didn't read all of that but I'm assuming it was directed toward my comment from the looks of it.

If you'd continue reading down further, someone corrected me by saying that maybe you mean missing your period...and I said "My apologies, I forget you still have a period on the pill"...

*pats you on the head* Good girl...

But again, I would just like to state one thing I said before:

My 96 year old partially senial Grandmother remembers to take her 10 pills a day, every single day, without anyone else's help. She'd die without them.

If its important to you, you'll remember.

Yeah, but the material difference there is if I forgot the pill or took it late, I wouldn't die.

But yeah, I agree with the whole priority makes you remember spiel.

Women shouldn't be on the patch anyway. The cancer-related incidents are significantly higher.
