i'll make a mix containing tracks from these 50 records if anyone's interested and either YSI or G-mail it. but you probably have to like fairly left-field music.

Fathoms (unadored) 12-22-2005, 03:00 AM 2. Though I have heard "of" a total of 8.

I like the list, although I haven't heard a fair portion of it. "Noise" and "weird" music is kinda all that excites me these days. CYHASY, New Pornographers, Art Brut, and the Wilderness all stand out like a pimple on a nose though. Not that they are bad, but its a bunch of genre music pinned up against bands trying to perfect pop music, for better or worse.

Chi Vampires is pretty good but neither of them are as good as some previous Birchville Cat Motel releases. i just kind of forgot about Chi Vampires since it came out in January and i don't think i've listened to it since a few months after that.

i think Merzbow gets shafted just cause he has so many releases. those three releases are all very sonically interesting, he's still tops in harsh noise.
patrick 12-22-2005, 11:39 PM i think i've heard three of those
broadcast is my number 1 and that's where the list ends
smashingjj 12-23-2005, 07:33 AM i'm postponing my 2005 list for a few more days / weeks. i've recently downloaded 10 or so albums from this year that i hadn't already heard, each of which seems to be pretty cool.

ahh i get it, it's one of the track names.
schaadow 12-23-2005, 01:00 PM so, i gave that track another listen. and i gotta say listening to a whiny drag queen still bores me as much as it did months ago.
i guess i have no soul.

i started listening to it just because of this song. after a while the others grew on me. i agree, there's nothing else on there that equals it, but i would call "my lady story", "for today i am a boy" and "man is the baby" good songs nonetheless. the collaborations are what really drags that album down a bit.
Nate the Grate 12-23-2005, 01:11 PM just out of curiosity, do you buy all the stuff on your list, or download it? or combination of the two? because I'd imagine that the price tag would get pretty hefty. I think I bought like 20 cd's this year, tops. maybe more, maybe less, I don't know. then again, I don't really have a "job". so yeah, answer the question.

most of the stuff on my list is downloaded. i don't have the money anymore to blow on CDs. in fact i'm gonna quit buying CDs altogether. if i feel like i need to own a piece of music it will be on vinyl. the compact disc is dead

this coincides timely with the ipod i shall be receiving for christmas this sunday.
smashingjj 12-23-2005, 01:42 PM Yeah, i've been preferring vinyl as well lately. Gives me the feeling that you own an ALBUM more than a cd does.
Rockin' Cherub 12-23-2005, 02:36 PM i know what you mean. but i don't have the money for it and now that i've started collecting cds i think i'll keep it that way.

and yeah i've downloaded lots this year. lp's are often cheaper. i've built a nice collection since i've started finding great second hand / new lp's for a few euros. maybe i'm just lucky that i live in a town with two stores specialised in 2nd hand music (mostly lp's)?
are you still on dialup? how can you listen to all that music man, you must have an insane phone bill?
Rockin' Cherub 12-23-2005, 04:33 PM yeah i'm still on modem. i don't go online to download things though. i go online to read things and keep the downloading in the **********. every once in a while something gets finished. but it was "loads" for my standards this year. my phone bill is indeed insane though, but i don't pay for it yet. my parents are complaining though. sigh, i'm an addict.
noyen 12-23-2005, 04:38 PM i wish your list was more eclectic. there was actually alot of good music released this year.
eyesbomb 12-23-2005, 05:20 PM 0. The Mars Volta - Scabdates
Come croste passate & date future, musiche presenti & musiche immortali.. .
1. The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
there is light in the darkest of your further listening.
the brightest. the music. the mute.
maravilla. il più bel disco. sonando. sangre.
4. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Worlds Apart
The Best. pop-rock. at its.
scintillante, schitarrante, schiacciante.
5. Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet - Omar Rodriguez
6. Dälek - Absence
hip-hop politico al calor bianco, mbv one-man three-men band arkestra.
7. Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust
A Lethal Lyricism.
8. dEUS - Pocket Revolution
Barman scrive come Lennon-McCartney.
9. Jaga Jazzist - What We Must
What The(y)!? Music.
10. Eels - Blinking Light & Other Revelations
11. Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
qualsiasi altra robaccia NIN.
12. Arab Strap - The Last Romance
discografia.
magari sarà è così; sicuramente nothing really ends.

Nate the Grate 12-26-2005, 11:31 PM why do people go through the effort of "ranking" albums by year, and then subsequently get flamed/flame someone else's list. what's the point? I guess I just don't see much of a difference between an album being number 37 or number 39. who really cares? like whatever you want to like, as much as you want to like it.
I feel cynical.
Quiet 12-27-2005, 10:42 AM I did not see "TheFutureEmbrace" on your list. You must have forgotten it.

oh and RP, do you think you could send me that other mouthus album that came out this year, slow globes? i hear it's a lot better than loam.

yeah, it is a beautiful album, and better than Loam. i think i had Loam in my top 20 last year though. unfortunate that Slow Globes went under the radar majorly. i don't think Troubleman put much into promoting it. you can get it on IT, or if you don't feel like that i can make a YSI eventually.

that's Slow Globes

this is also really good, Mouthus with Valerie Allen, really too good to deserve being limited to 100 copies.
ryan patrick 12-30-2005, 06:42 PM i have to top 50 mix done, i just have to winrar it up which is taking forever then YSI it up which will take forever
Illinois 12-30-2005, 06:43 PM despite your shortcoming, rp, your list is still way better than ptichfork's ridiculous list. talk about a website falling in to irrelevancy.

yeah, it's pretty much just a list of "what charted in the top 10 on CMJ this year?" with some major label hip hop and random pop acts that seem like awkward grasping. it's just so dull and kind of embarassing when you think about how hard they try to make it seem like they're then one pointing it out when it was just obvious in the first place...
daydreamer999 12-30-2005, 07:02 PM pitchfork's list was hilarious this year, but you could see it coming a mile off with their best new music picks throughout the year, "oh that came out on sub pop, yeah put it on... matador, cool... cam'ron, YEAH!!"
i also really liked it how they gave multiples by keith fullerton whitman a 9.1 but didn't make it best new music, as if they couldn't make some that leftfield best new music because they have a reputation to uphold.

daydreamer999 12-30-2005, 07:06 PM lol
i didn't actually listen to that album more than once, it seemed pretty boring and the singer's voice pisses me off, so i don't think i'm missing much.

neopryn 12-30-2005, 08:27 PM ounsworth's voice is the best thing about it. there are some terrible tracks on it but some truly outstanding ones as well.
