there's a reason joy division wasn't inclu<lksjadfl>ded in the pretty in pink soundtrack and new order was.

New Order's first record was brilliant, but the rest of their stuff doesnt match up, at all.

I enjoy both but have never been a massive fan of either. If I could go back in time and see Joy Division or go to a New Order gig, I'd definitely choose Joy Division. Bernard Sumner is a really crummy live singer.

Definatly Joy Division, although I love New Order also. I think that New Dawn Fades is one of my favorite songs of all time.

And by the way - Dark as my Soul - I really enjoy your graphic that you have in your sig. A fine collection of bands indeed.

Billy Corgan anyone?

I know Bernard doesn't hit the exact same notes as he does on record but you can tell he is really into the performance and i love his little " Woow's!" he adds in to the songs. He also jumps up and down a lot which affects your voice.

That has to be a joke. No Blue Monday? The best dance song ever? No albums like Brotherhood and Low-Life? Get the fuck outta here:D

new order songs as good as any joy division ones:

temptation
blue monday
true faith
perfect kiss
run
regret

their recent stuff isn't bad either. not up to anything from the 80s or JD but good stuff.

blue monday is the only new order song that stacks up to the best joy division stuff.

Aw come on fred, people can either put up with billy's style of 'whiny' singing or not, and most of the folk here can.

I've heard boots where billy's voice is off but most of the time his vocals are similar to the recording, bernard is all over the place any time i've seen/heard them play live.

I'm not saying they're a crap band at all, but he's a crap live singer.

That's bullshit, You know i love his voice. When he performs live though he sings totally different to the recording. Like he is off key. Plus he can't sing like he used to. The years of screaming has damaged his voice. You can also tell that he layers his vocals to FUCK! When he is recording. Listen to any Machina era bootleg and when they perform and old song, You will hear the difference.

I feel his live singing has gotten better though in recent years. Like Zwan and also his solo stuff.

To say Bernard is all over the place just isn't right when your a smashing pumpkins fan.

Dude you're cruising to get BITCHSLAPPED

I'm not debating whether Billy layers his vox on albums, every cunt protools their vocals to shit anyway nowadays. Likewise, Bernard sounds really good on albums.

Plus you've contradicted yourself, you said he doesn't sing like he used to, then that his solo/zwan vocals are better! IMO, aside from his 'unique tone' and singing style, he was an awful singer when he started out, but has progressively improved ever since.

<s>No one's voice is as spot on as their album recordings</s> very few people's voice are as good or better live than on their recordings *humps jeff's legs* but billy is a whole world better at holding and hitting notes, and general vocal control than bernard. BS does jump about a bit, which makes it even worse.

Again, I know the influence they've had on billy, amongst many others, and I respect them as a band, but I stick with my original statement.

plz dont give me The Chest™ :(

Ok, but i never contradicted myself.
I said in recent years it has gotten better.
The machina era was his worst ever for vocal live performance.
But that's just my point of view x

as much as i freak out at the club when they play bizzare love triangle (so sick of blue monday but it excited me at first) and force all my friends to dance with me, the influence of my goth soul is too strong not to say jd.

ian curtis was a clown. i listened to a couple of live recordings of new dawn fades. his voice cracked with emotion at exactly the same place, in exactly the same way of both recordings.
