'The Sadness' is one of the best songs of the year. fucking great.

I'll give the rest a bit more time though.

i read an interview with Frank Black where he takes a jab at Ryan Adams, basically calling him out as a mediocre songwriter. I'd have to totally agree... he's all quantity with very little quality.

Who cares if you release 3 albums a year if they're all boring? You'd be much better off listening to his way more talented contemporaries Sufjan Stevens, M.Ward, Bright Eyes, Devendra Banhard, ext.

conor oberst isn't more talented than ryan adams. but at least he doesn't put out tons and tons of average material. ryan adams used to be alright though so i don't think it's a question of talent.

I really, really like 29. More so than either Jacksonville City Nights or Cold Roses.

I would hesitate to call it better, however.

Ryan Adams has written 10 times the good songs Frank Black has in the past 10 years.

I like about 3/4 of Cold Roses. I haven't heard the new album yet but I saw a picture of him recently and it looked like he slept in a drainpipe. That's pretty much all I can contribute at this point.
