how would you handle a date if you can't even post a thread about it?

oh the server is AWESOME! it was supposed to say...

Just out of curiosity I was wondering how people feel about this. Some say age matters and others don't. Do you see any major problems with a 19 year old girl dating a 24 year old guy?
A lot of people consider a five year difference around this age range pretty big.

i think it depends a lot on the people. and their maturity. i know this is the generic answer, but if one's in high school and the other's graduated from uni i could see it being a problem. but i guess those two ppl wouldn't really have toomuch in common and find themselves in a relationship... i dunno.

yeah. it could be somewhat weird if one person is still going to school and the other has a full time 'real' job.
regardless of maturity some people react like "OH MY GOD, they're so much older than you. that's creepy"

Who gives a shit? If you like/love them then it doesn't matter.

I speak from experience, and from a much more extreme end of the spectrum, and all my friends and family who have met my b/f love him, cause he's squishy and great.

For a fling it's fine. For a relationship you're asking for trouble usually. 19 year olds change their minds every 20 minutes

hahaha. actually no. it's a funny story really. when we get together I'll tell you all about it if you want! I didn't sleep last night and I'm not tired now, so I'll actually be awake before my 3:30 class. let me know if you wanna hang out todayyy

I used to feel that a four year gap was far too much, and then I became desperate and went out with someone 4 years younger. I've changed my opinion now. I think anyone from the range of 18-23 usually doesn't know what the fuck they want anyway, and the whole thing is a crap shoot no matter what the difference in age is. This is why I've currently given up on dating, because I sure as hell don't appeal to women older than that.

yeah what everyone else said. It really depends on where you both are situationally in life.

holy crap you were young. If you were my friend i would have been FREAKING OUT.

but i'm sure y'all are working out fine hah.

i actually expected a lot of that, as i had another friend who got married at 20 and took lots of flak for it

but I got none of that from anyone - i take it as a testament that people think we're perfect for eachother :D

i don't think that is a big age difference. i think that there is a lot more to a person than their age, but age can be a barrier just like anything else.

i'd like to hear the story but i actually decided against going to my second class today so that means i'm not even going to the 1604 campus today at all. maybe thursday after your class?

hey deathofromeo! i'm 24, are you talking about me??????/???

also empty your box, it's been full for ages.

and yeah, what p_r_s said. age can be an issue but so can a lot of things. it needn't be problematic at all but it depends so much on the two people that generalising like this is almost pointless.

at 16 my g/f was nearly 20 and it was no problem at all.

After both parties are legal, age doesn't matter as long as both people know what is going on, ie, this is a relationship or this is just sex.

I dated a 30 year old six or so months ago when I was 20. The having stuff in common and being able to talk and such was fine; he just happened to be one of those men you hear about in lore whose mommy trouble translates into being a bit of an ass.

hah I was with someone who was.. 19 when I was 15 and at the time I didn't think the age difference was that big of a deal, but now that I look back on it--it was. Although I guess technically he was only 3.something years old than me but who's counting.

no, one (the old one) was a mover who worked for me, and i found the other on craigslist after someone suggested that i was an internet dater and i realized i had never done that and i decided i was not above it. i had a spare ticket to a concert and i found a cool guy from the art institute to go with me. i could invite him to this concert i am going to tomorrow night and he would go but i think i won't because what's the point? i'm moving and i'm not even really interested in hooking up and i'm bad enough at maintaining my existing relationsips. also i am a chicken. :D he emailed me later and said he would invite me to another concert if he could find a cool one for us. the whole thing was slightly awkward because he was pretty shy and it made me shy, but he's cool and pretty cute. i am currently trying to shake the old guy but i am also a chicken in that relationship, too. i suck at this since my feelings about everything are so mild.
