It's a term I vaguely recall from an art class I took. It means creating a new albeit familiar style combining lots of older established styles. It's new but it's not really. Or something like that. I sold my textbook and can't for the life of me remember the term. Any help is appreciated.

It means more than just a combination of things. It's like...the things that combined to make it don't really exist anymore. Or at least aren't so obvious. That's why it seems both new and familiar but it's not wholly original. Dammit.
