The high tomorrow is 45 :( but with 40mph wind gusts so whats that, like 20 degrees?

Snowing in Virginia... what the hell I want snow. I assume you're at a higher elevation? I'm north of you and I supposed the ocean could have something to do with it but it hasnt hit 40 yet.

uhhh Blacksburg is only at 2000ft

it does this every year though. It will be warm one week and then all of the sudden -50 degrees outside. Blacksburg, for some reason, is also always windy and it makes it almost unbearable to walk to class when it is cold.

And you can have all the snow this year, I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate driving in it. I came pretty close to being a serious accident because of winter weather before and blah I hate it.

The weather does pretty much the same thing here in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. It sucks.

Being farther north means more snow but usually it means road crews are better equiped to handle the snow... that and I don't drive... so I don't hate the snow at this point.

We have two inches on the ground.

I just had to turn the heater on - God it smells awful right now. :(

nooo! I love the smell of heaters! I don't know why

My favorite smell in the world is a distance fireplace

As in you are driving down a back road on a crisp afternoon and smell someones fireplace burning. Oh man I love that smell.

Thank the Lord for candle warmers.

Smell of burning wood is great... my woodburning stove is lit right now... I find it oddly comforting.

Heating rates went up 24% around here... all hail to the stove.

I wish it was colder around here. This month alone we've had 13+ inches of rain. It's like 1inch of rain=10 of snow that would be nuts.

it's been all gray and dreary the last couple of days...I can feel winter coming. it's kind of funny to think of the freshman that I know from california and florida. they don't know what to expect. a few of them have never seen snow before, or owned a winter jacket. haha should be fun for them. I love it.

What? It snows here all the time, we are alright with handling snow. The only thing that fucks things up is that we get a lot of ice, which is significantly harder to control.

we basically only get ice here. we're not that far east of you, but we're out of the mountains. most of the snow gets dumped in the mountains, so we usually don't get much.
the only time we get significant precipitation here is when the fronts come up from the south, pulling gulf moisture with it. in these situations, though, we're usually right on the freezing line. we get freezing rain way more than we get snow.

freezing rain SUCKS, because thats how you lose power for days and days and days.

They only closed campus once last year and that was for half a day (until the sun came out) when it iced the night before. they close the k-12 schools more often, but thats because they don't want school buses driving down windy backass roads the kids live on when there is bad weather.

I think the schools around here have 10 snowdays built into their schedule, and if they don't use them up they get out earlier in june/may

DO ITTT!!!

I just walked across campus to get my lunch! It was worth it though, I went to Au Bon Pain and got a salad, a jalapeno cheese bagel, beef stew, and a power ade!

Oh and I brought the cookies I made on Sunday to class and everyone loved them!

Ice/snow/whatever.

My buddy is from VA and lives up north in Park Rapids now. When he goes home and drives around in snow or freezing rain, his family says "oh you shouldn't go out in this weather" or, if they're with him, "SLOW DOWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN".

we hardly missed any days at vcu because of snow/freezing rain, even when it was warranted. it's not fun to try to parallel park (most of the students are commuters) when the plows have pushed all the snow into the areas you'd normally be parking.

people here can't drive in the snow/ice at all. people freak out if they even hint that we might get snow or ice. i don't mind driving in the snow/ice, but i'm paranoid about what everyone else is doing.

we typically weren't without power for too long when we had the ice storms. for a while my neighbor was on the priority list for getting the power fixed because of his grandchildren that lived there having medical conditions. they don't live there anymore.
the worst power-outage we had was in 2003 after isobel. i live in the city and i was without power for 11 days. it was never more than 2-3 because of ice.

my parents are always paranoid about going out in the snow/ice and used to always tell me i shouldnt go out. i've only ever had a problem once and that was my fault. i tried to parallel park too quickly on ice once and clipped a telephone pole. oops. no major damage though.

Its okay I've been driving during the witer at night with my Grand Am, it does fine. I just can't go as fast as everyone else! But I had a bad experience with an icy bridge so I am a little paranoid about driving in the snow.

I haven't gone sledding since I was 15. Riding a sled is the funnest. But sometimes I'm too embarassed to do it. I think I'm gonna find a nice isolated spot in the mountains to go sledding later this year.

i would love to snowboard. and see snow. technically i saw snow back in 1985 when it last snowed in san antonio but i was only 3 years old and my mom wouldn't let me play in it because i had a slight cold or something so i was just standing at the see through door crying watching my siblings play in the snow. or so i'm told.

Prove it.

The northeast gets more coverage about big snowfalls because of the amount of people it affects. No one gives two shits about the 22 inches dumped in Aitkin.

Supposedly this year will be dry and much warmer according to forecasts. The last couple years have been dry, but cold, up to February or so and then we got dumped on.

yeah it snowed in Nashville, but I was only 1. it snowed when we lived in Arlington too, but I was still to young to remember. There's video of my sister playing outside.
one time when I was in 3rd grade it started to snow but it melted before it even touched the ground. and then the ice storm came along and we treated it like snow. little kids throwing "snow balls" that's really hail is NOT safe...
I was so jealous of my sister last christmas eve because she was in galveston and they got like 7 inches of snow. now she live in illinois where she'll definitely get snow!
