Check out this months Blender, they list their picks for the 250 best songs ever. The Pumpkins got picked for 1979 and it was listed as as song number 244 (or something close in the last 15 or 20). Blender clearly is messed up somehow, they picked Michael Jacksons Bille Jean as number 1 and somehow the Beastie Boys have like 4 or 5 songs on the list (they have written some good stuff, but not enough to get that many listed). Hell Courtney Love even got two songs placed ahead of of SP (Violet, Malibu) and on top of that Briteny Spears's Baby one more time made the top 25 (I believe, I think it was 15 or something). The people at Blender clearly has spent the last 15 years reading Rolling Stone and watching Carson Daily while smoking crack hoping that they could put out a decent album...its a shame cause all that cash that they must have spent on cable and drugs and subscriptions they could have used to buy a few decent albums, gotten a FM radio and gone to journalism school.

Every magazine that puts out a list like that seems to get something, if not mostly everything, terribly wrong.
But everyone would have a different list if they made one up.

As far as pop songs go, Billie Jean is pretty dope!

Also, if they think that 1979 is the pumpkins best song, what does that say about the credibility of this list?

I don't know. they gave Billy credit for Malibu as well as Courts (Billy helped write the song, Courtney was brilliant in the performance - they used the word 'unhinged")

They had some great songs chosen like Bob Dylans' Not Dark yet adn the magnetic fields. then they of course picked some crappy songs like "Larger than Life" (is that the Backstreet Boys?) and Bye Bye Bye (is that NSync I think?)

Baby One More Time and Since You've Been gone both have their charm though. I can handle them being on the list.

They picked Princes' "When You Were Mine" - and I totally love Cyndi Lauper's version of that song. She doesn't change the gender so she sings "I know that you're going with another guy" - it gives a new meaning to the song. So brilliant a cover I think. But it was Prince's version and not Cyndi's that made the list. They also picked Sinead's cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U and Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt so it's not like they only neglected the cover versions. they did put Cyndi's Time after Time on the list though.

I don't know I never expect Blender to be very deep and so I look at it for what it is, and they had some surprisingly good picks, actually.

It is annoying that the same people make these lists (Nirvana, whatever, Britney Spears) when they are all ready so hyped. But it's not meant to be deep.

brilliant? they have got to be kidding.

i'm not a big Hole/Courtney Love fan but jesus, she has done better than Malibu (if they are speaking strictly about performance of one of their songs).
