It's, umm, "interesting" I guess. At least nobody will be complaining that this one sounds like their first two abums. Parts of this song remind me of System of a Down, which isn't something I ever thought I'd be saying about The Strokes. I sort of like it though... but I'm a Strokes freak.

After hearing it again, it actually reminds me of a Ted Leo song... I think there's one on "Hearts of Oak" that sounds quite a bit like it.

I would also like to add that I think this song beats the shit out of the new Franz Ferdinand single.

It sounds to me like a bad Franz impersonation. Or some variation of the Munsters theme song. Either way this song is horrible. The Strokes just keep getting worse as they go along.

hmm. that was okay at best, but not as terrible as i had feared. i've noticed that if i listen to questionable stuff enough, i start liking it, so i'm sure i'll buy the album.

The guitars sound less like the Strokes, more like every other dull band they spawned.

Julian Casablancas sounds like a cross between Twat out of Franz Ferdinand and The Hives guy.

I think you misunderstood me... I like the song, and I am stoked for the new album as well. The only part that reminded me of System of a Down was the "Standing in the lightfield(?)/Standing in the lightfield/Waiting for some action/Waiting for some action" part. I think it's the delivery. Give it another listen and perhaps you'll see what I mean.

ive listened to it a bunch, dont agree with you though. probably because i hold the strokes on such high regards while i think system of a down are a steaming pile of shit. but i can kind of understand why you think that, because the guitars and bass sound a bit heavier than the strokes usually do during the part you're referring to.

the "sort of liked it" made you sound like you were disappointed, i think the track grows on you, but i really liked it from the get go.

It's been said already, but yea, to sum up, the riff sounds like a cheesy spy tune, like Espionage by Green Day or something. And Julian Casablanca's voice sounds like the bloke from Franz Ferdinand. That was 3 minutes 15 of shit.

Well, I've had the chance to give First Impressions of Earth a decent listening... and it's horrible. From what I gather, I seemed to be the biggest Strokes fan on this board prior to this album. I thought Is This It and Room On Fire were both five star albums. What a letdown this is. The songs are bland, the lyrics are crap ("Don't be a coconut/God is trying to talk to you"... what the fuck is that???), and the hooks are nonexistent. It IS different from their previous work, but in this case, different is certainly not better. I was planning on going to see them on their next U.S. tour, but now I'm having second thoughts. It feels pretty bad when one of your favorite bands releases a shitty album that you've been waiting years for.

i saw the video, but it was turned down low.

i still have yet to hear anything from the new album. i have a co worker downloading it for me.

sorry to hear, i love the new album and it challenges is this it for my favorite strokes album. too bad LA tickets to the troubadour show tonight are impossible to get.
