I like them and they get bonus points because the music media dislikes them.

for a long long time the distance was the most played song ever on BBC Radio 1. it had had more plays on there than bohemian rhapsody and smells like teen spirit and every other song which was rather bizzare but true. it's been overtaken since but i can't remember what by

Rock And Roll Lifestyle > The Distance

all of their best songs are non singles though. Except for I Will Survive.

"Jolene" is a hot track. Prolonging the Magic is likely their best album though. So many good songs not named "Never There" on there.

Good live show, too. And the ex-guitarist's band Deathray is cool, too.

excellent band quickly becoming one of my favorites. i only own comfort eagle, pressure cheif and fashion nugget thus far. i hope to get prolonging the magic and motorcade of generosity when i have some money

i have nothing but love for them, except their last album was pretty shitty.

You know, cake's guitar lines always remind me of 2marlon2brando.

i've pretty much lost all respect for them when that singer guy kicked a drunk guy who happened to get on stage somehow in the ass and off stage. and it was a high stage. he then proceeded to mock the audience and wanted to pick a fight with some people in the front row who didn't like his behaviour. then some guys from another band came on stage and wanted to help him, but he punched one of them pretty hard and so a fight broke out on stage, involving cake, that other band and about 10 venue-securities. come to think of it, it was actually pretty cool

they were nice when I saw them.

deathray is thrice the band that cake were..

their newest is... quite good, especially for a self-released album (it's real unfortunate that they don't have a label deal). not perfect, but what is? it's better than any of cake's albums.

john mccrea must be quite a dink - i think there are now three ex-cakers that have quit and joined deathray (including the talented one, greg brown... cake's Matt Sharp?)

it's prolly too early to count cake out, cuz the last one (pressure chief?) was not all bad...

Only one problem: Greg Brown is good, and Matt Sharp sucks.

Also, Sharp is a whole lot dumber. Weezer were one of the bigger bands in the world when he left to pursue the sonically inferior Rentals. Cake was never really huge (though they've had some veritable hits). Brown wanted to do his own thing, and didn't have a record deal waiting like Sharp did. Yet, the Rentals sucked and Deathray is megacool.

I like them, but I can't stand the distance or short skirt/long jacket cos of the radio

i really dislike cake. i don't like the singers voice, and he doesn't really sing, he talk/sings. and i don't care for the brass instruments that are in the songs (i think it's a trumpet). otherwise i give them credit for being different than a lot of other bands.
