I got two. One Mastercard that I've managed to come close to maxing out and one American Express Gold Card which I've only had for a few months but never use because barely any stores down here seem to take it

I have over 10 (lots of store accounts I only opened to get a discount) but only 3 that I use. I just got a credit report and my credit rating is good. I'd like to close some of the accounts I don't use, but it would make my credit score lower so I just chopped up the cards and let the accounts sit dormant.

does what work?
my accounts still exist (ann taylor, j crew, old navy, marshall fields, victoria's secret) but I have a $0 balance on the accounts and I do not have the plastic cards. the idea is what creditors want to see that you have credit avaliable that you don't use, so they look at the ratio of your available credit versus what you owe. you want a good, low ratio. if i cancelled all my cards except the ones i am carrying a balance on (and oh how i wish that balance would disappear, and i am working on it), anyway, if i cancelled all the $0 balance dormant accounts, i would owe a much higher ratio of my available credit. i am having trouble explaining but i can elaborate or try again if you need me to.

that explained it. i thought you had to actually use a card for it to be '*******d' in your credit-rating (or whatever).

I have two (not including store cards, which all have zero balances) a capital one with a $1000 balance on it (the account is closed already, I'm just paying off the balance) and a discover card with a $3470 balance. I've got both cards in credit counseling and as soon as I move back in with my mom (at the end of the month!) and have no rent to pay I'll get my cards paid off. And will be able to go to school full time! yay!

I don't have any. And I think Alba should have been topless in Sin City, to stay true to the source material.

None. I've been meaning to apply for a Visa/Mastercard/etc. for a long time but I never get around to it. I'd probably just order shit online that I don't need, anyway.

1 Mastercard that has a small balance ($250), but then I put a lot of stuff on it recently - 2 plane tickets, new bike.
1 Visa that I never activated and is now expired.
1 HBC (The Bay) credit card that has a $0 balance, that I got to have a massive discount on a winter coat.

I also have 3 debit cards but I'm going to close one account.

I've had various along the way - but currently hold none

You see, I have this problem with credit cards ...

Everytime I see that sign on the door saying "VISA accepted here" something happens in my brain and it gets translated to "Everything is free today!"

Two:

A Merill Lynch+ Black Diamond card - it's really priceless.

And an American Express Gold card that's for emergencies only.

I put everything on my + card and pay it off each month.
